Buddy Break is a FREE respite program designed by Nathaniel's Hope especially for children with special needs (our VIP kids) and their siblings. While kids enjoy a safe, fun-filled afternoon, parents get the gift of a few hours to rest, recharge, and breathe on the second Sunday of every month.

At WholeLife's Buddy Break, VIP kids between the ages of 2 and 18 make friends, play games, create crafts, enjoy music, hear stories, and experience the love of Christ in a place where they are fully accepted and celebrated.

Meanwhile, parents receive a meaningful break from their ongoing caregiving responsibilities, knowing their children are cared for by trained, loving volunteers.

  • One out of 10 kids under the age of 14 has some kind of special need.
    You probably know someone with a VIP kid! 
  • The weight and stress of raising a child with special needs can be overwhelming.
  • Mental Health Treatment of stress is 2-3x higher for parents of VIP kids
    versus parents of typical kids.
  • The divorce rate is high (up to 80%) for couples with a child with special needs.
  • Families often experience extreme isolation, depression, loneliness, and fatigue.
  • Opportunities to get a break are rare, yet desperately needed to survive.

All buddies attend a mandatory Buddy Break training to ensure every child is cared for with confidence, compassion, and understanding. No experience needed — just a heart to serve.
